Reminder: Bike / E-Bike Safety
Dear Parents and Students,
To assist in ensuring the safety of all students who ride bikes and eBikes to school within the Encinitas Union School District (EUSD), the following actions are required this fall:
Application Process: To obtain the bike permit ID tag, students must complete an application at this link.
Safety Assembly: Attend an Encinitas Union School District (EUSD) approved Bike/eBike Safety Presentation. The assembly, led by the San Diego Bike Coalition, is crucial for ensuring that everyone understands safe riding practices and are scheduled during the school day at each site. If a student is not present on the day of the assembly, the City of Encinitas offers additional options at this link, as well as the City of Carlsbad at this link. An additional EUSD makeup session will be scheduled after Fall Break.
Receiving Your ID Tag: After successfully completing the application and attending the safety presentation, students will be issued a district-issued parking permit ID tag. ID tags will be issued through your school's front office.
Affix the Bike Permit / ID Tag: The ID tag must be visibly affixed to your Bike or eBike. This tag serves as proof of completion of the safety requirements.
Please note that students who do not have an ID tag visibly affixed to their Bike or eBike will not be permitted to ride to school or bring their Bike or eBike onto any EUSD campus after Fall Break. In order to efficiently provide the bike tags before Fall Break, we ask that all families complete the applications as soon as possible and by October 18th for tags distributed before break. Schools will begin to monitor following the break and students will be provided reminders if there is no tag on their bike. Students may turn in applications throughout the year if they complete the requirements.
We continue to prioritize student well-being and safety and know this is an important community-wide effort. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe environment for everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school’s front office.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Eric Smith
